Commission

The commission is represented by:

Hamilton Township, Jackson Township, Pocono Township, and 2 school districts, Pocono Mountain School District and Stroudsburg Area School District.

Our commission has been in operation for a little over 3 years and has a lot to show for it.                                                                                                                                         A 146-acre parcel of property was purchased on Golden Slipper Road to be developed as a regional park. An Executive Director has been hired to organize, plan and implement our Master Plan. The Director will also provide programming, classes and other activities for the public.

Spotts/Stevens/McCoy is a planning firm hired to prepare a master site plan for the regional park.  The plan has been finalized and we are anticipating that construction will begin soon.

The Master Site Plan proposes the following; natural areas, paved and unpaved trails, playground areas, soccer fields, tennis courts, volleyball courts, basketball courts, baseball and softball fields, an outdoor amphitheater, recreation center, pavilions and picnic areas. On the brochure you will find a concept map of what we hope is some of the features to become part of this park. You'll also find important info on each of the townships.

UPDATE: Part of our plans are at DEP for final review and part are at PennDOT. Once we get them back we will be looking to bid out the work to construct the parks features.

The park is open to the public for hiking. If you want a guided tour of the ground and some of the special features call the office to schedule one.

Some of our rule are: NO Camping without a permit. No Ground Fires. No Fireworks, firearms or projectiles. Pets must be on leash and picked up after. No Alcohol.

ATV's are NOT allowed. We are seeing signs of them destroying the grounds and wetland areas for their personal use.

UPDATE: We are currently developing a "Friends of HJP Park and Open Space" group. We will be looking for members and volunteers as this group gets under way. Our submission to the IRS for our 501 (c)(3), [non profit status], is pending their review and approval.
